Couplings for ship propeller shafts. Adjusting bolts.

Problem

On large couplings, large bolts, and often adjusting bolts, are used. The adjusting bolts are adjusted with a very low tolerance in the holes of the coupling. The adjustment takes time. Each bolt must be adjusted separately on each hole. Removing an adjusting bolt also has disadvantages such as seizing bolts and plastic deformation.

Solution

The Superbolt expansion bolt is a special adjusting bolt which permits radial expansion. Radial expansion is very important. It can reach several millimetres. This bolt is inserted into a hole with a slight pre-tension. It is no longer necessary to rectify the holes. The force required to fix the bolt is very small.

Result

Coupling is very easy to install without any loss of time. Thanks to the better distribution of forces, the chosen coupling can be shorter. Dismounting is also very simple, and there is no risk of seizing or plastic deformation.
